GE Energy's Rental Equipment to Power Australia's Grid Units Installed at Wilga Park Power Station in New South Wales ATLANTA, GEORGIA (September 21, 2004) Generating equipment supplied by GE Energy's rental business has been installed at the Wilga Park Power Station near Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia, and is producing up to 12 megawatts of power for the Australian grid. Under a three-year contract that also includes operation and maintenance, GE provided the equipment to Eastern Star Gas Limited of Sydney, owner of the power station. Natural gas from the Coonarah Gas Field west of Narrabri is being used as the fuel for the power plant. Rental equipment supplied by GE includes 12 one-megawatt Jenbacher gas-fired generator sets, four step-up transformers, and an 11 kV switchboard and control room. The equipment arrived on the site in March and following installation, was commissioned in July 2004. The project marks the first grid-connected application for GE Energy's rental business in Australia, as well as the first such project for the region and for Eastern Star Gas. All equipment was installed to meet the technical requirements of Australia's National Electricity Market. "We are pleased to partner with Eastern Star Gas in this landmark project," said Dean Ireland, country executive-GE Energy for Australia and New Zealand. "We are looking forward to other opportunities for our rental equipment and services in Australia's promising energy industry." Eastern Star Gas is dedicated to developing gas reserves for the eastern Australian market. The company's current focus is on appraising known, conventional gas fields in the Gunnedah Basin, New South Wales, and on exploring the coal bed methane potential of brown coal deposits in the eastern Otway area of Victoria.
