GE Supplying two Hydro Turbines, Generators for New Project in China's Fujian Province

SHANGHAI, CHINA. (October 18, 2004) — GE Energy will supply two hydro turbines, generators, additional equipment and services to Fujian Jinzaoqiao Hydropower Company, Ltd. for the Jinzaoqiao hydropower station to be built on the Jinzao River in Fujian Province, China.

Scheduled to enter service in 2006, the new hydro plant will produce nearly 70 megawatts of electricity for the regional grid to help meet China's growing power requirements.

Under a contract of $US 3.33 million, GE Energy, through its GE Hydro Asia unit, will provide two 33-megawatt, 234-meter head Francis hydro turbines, generators, spare parts, special tools and site technical service.

Shipments of the GE-supplied equipment for the project will begin in late 2004 and will be completed by early 2006. The first GE hydro turbine-generator is scheduled to enter commercial operation in April 2006 and the second unit in June 2006.

While this is GE's first project with Fujian Jinzaoqiao Hydropower, the company has been active in the hydropower industry in China since 1972, and has been involved in the delivery of 24,564 megawatts of hydropower equipment in the country.

"Developing hydropower stations such as Fujian Jinzaoqiao is a significant part of China's sustainable energy initiative,” said Li Shu-Ping, GE Hydro Asia sales leader. "We are pleased that our high-head technology has been selected for a number of these projects."
