GE Energy to Provide Three LM6000PC SPRINT Gas Turbine Generator Sets to Nigerian Cement Plant

ATLANTA, GA (October 28, 2004) — GE Energy was awarded a $61 million contract by Dangote Industries Limited of Lagos, Nigeria to provide three LM6000PC SPRINT® aeroderivative natural gas, dual fuel gas turbine generator sets with water injection. This agreement represents the first industrial LM6000 project for GE Energy in Nigeria.

Each gas turbine generator set has a total capacity of 44.3 megawatts under ambient conditions of 42 degrees Celsius (107.6 degrees Fahrenheit) and will be installed at the Obajana Cement Plant in Kogi State, Nigeria. The turbines will be used for simple cycle power generation. The primary fuel is natural gas and the backup fuel is diesel/liquid. GE Energy will also be providing balance of plant equipment and installation supervision.

"By choosing our LM6000PC SPRINT dual fuel gas turbine generator sets, Dangote Industries will benefit from the high simple-cycle efficiency and availability of the LM6000, as well as GE Energy's experience and know-how in executing these type of fast-track projects," said Rick Stewart, president, GE Energy's aeroderivative division. "GE Energy has been very active in Nigeria for many years, particularly in the oil and gas sector. We are pleased that our first industrial LM6000 project in Nigeria is with Dangote Industries and we look forward to working together."

The three gas turbine generator sets, which are being manufactured at one of GE Energy's aeroderivative facilities in Houston, Texas, were shipped at the end of September 2004. They are expected to begin commercial operation during the first quarter of 2005.

The LM6000PC SPRINT's spray inter-cooling design significantly increases the mass airflow by cooling the air during the compression process, resulting in more power and better heat rate without an increase in maintenance costs.

Dangote Industries Limited is one of Nigeria's largest privately owned businesses with trading and manufacturing operations in many industries including cement, agriculture, textiles, food industries (sugar, flour, spaghetti, macaroni and salt) and packaging.

GE Energy's aeroderivative division is a leading supplier of aeroderivative gas turbines for industrial and marine applications and is also the world's largest and most experienced aeroderivative gas turbine service provider. It provides power-generating equipment to utilities, industries and marine fleets throughout the world. In addition, the company provides comprehensive maintenance coverage and is dedicated to helping its customers improve their operations through reduced plant downtime, improved efficiency and enhanced power or production output.
