GE Energy to Upgrade an Aeroderivative Gas Turbine for Power Plant at JFK Airport

ORLANDO, FLORIDA (November 30, 2004) — GE Energy's aeroderivative division will upgrade an LM6000-PA aeroderivative gas turbine in a combined-cycle power plant operated by Calpine Corporation [NYSE:CPN] at John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport in Jamaica, N.Y. This will be the second LM6000-PA upgrade done at JFK and the ninth LM6000-PA upgrade GE has implemented since 2001.

GE Energy will replace the existing LM6000-PA with a new LM6000-PC with SPRINT® (SPRayINTercooling) and enhanced flow speed (EFS). Under the scope of the contract, GE Energy will also provide the EFS core speed software, LM6000-PA Uprate/PC package control conversion and sprint hardware, engineering and administrative services, software modification and testing. GE Energy will also provide the installation for all new product-service bulletins required to update the package. Overall, this upgrade will increase output, efficiency and reliability, providing valuable productivity improvements for the Calpine JFK power plant.

"The new LM6000-PC with Sprint and EFS offers lower production costs through improved efficiencies," said Dan Werrell, general manager, GE Energy's aeroderivative services division. "Upgrading to the SPRINT and EFS configuration increases power output by an additional 10 to 20 percent and enhances plant flexibility."
