| HOUSTON, TEXAS - June 2, 2008 : – To improve the amount of energy delivered to the electrical grid and maximize the energy produced, IBERDROLA RENEWABLES, (formerly known as PPM Energy) has chosen Prolec GE to supply high-efficiency transformers using amorphous metal for four of its wind farms. Prolec GE's high-efficiency transformers are based on amorphous metal cores, which significantly lower no-load losses by 60 to 70 percent as compared with high-efficiency silicon steels. Amorphous metal cores have a proven reliability and stability over time and more than 700,000 units are in service today. Displaying financial and environmental performance benefits, the high-efficiency transformers have been certified under GE's ecomagination initiative. Ecomagination is GE's commitment to address challenges such as the need for cleaner, more efficient sources of energy, reduced emissions and abundant sources of clean water. "Our amorphous metal transformers allow wind farm owners to maximize their profitability and productivity with proven technology. They allow for a very high return on a virtually risk-free incremental investment, while delivering energy efficiency benefits that are consistent with the wind industry's environmental image," said Bob Gilligan, general manager of GE Energy's transmission and distribution business. Widespread adoption of these transformers could have a substantial impact o n the environment. In the United States and Mexico, electric utilities and end users install more than one million distribution transformers each year. If all of these distribution transformers used GE's amorphous metal core technology rather than high-efficiency silicon steel, the annual electricity savings would be approximately 750 million kWh. These energy savings could avoid more than 465,000 tons of CO2 emissions from traditional U.S. electricity sources, which is equivalent to the impact of removing nearly 90,000 cars from U.S. roads for one year. In addition, these ultra-efficient transformers exceed the United States Department of Energy's minimum efficiency standards two years before they take effect in 2010. The application of Prolec GE's transformers is the better option for wind farm owners due to its improved design and proven increased profitability driven by the savings generated by the no-load losses. Prolec GE's high-efficiency amorphous core transformers are being installed at four of IBERDROLA's wind farms including: MinnDakota, located on the border of Minnesota and South Dakota; Casselman, located near Pittsburgh, Penn.; Klondike III, located near Wasco, Ore.; and Elm Creek, located near Trimont in southern Minnesota. "IBERDROLA RENEWABLES leads the wind power industry in trying to minimize our environmental impact and improve plant efficiency by buying amorphous core transformers," said Kevin Devlin, vice president for operations at IBERDROLA RENEWABLES. Prolec GE is a joint venture between Xignux, S.A. de C.V. and the General Electric Company. Xignux is a group of leading Mexican companies in the electrical, automotive and food sectors. GE is a world leader in the electrical, power systems, medical, aerospace, telecommunications and financial sectors. Prolec GE is a leading manufacturer of oil-filled transformers in the residential, commercial, industrial and power segments. Its experience and quality systems, as well as its geographical location in Monterrey, Mexico, place it as a strategic supplier to serve North America and international markets. IBERDROLA RENEWABLES is the world leader in wind power with 8,164 megawatts of installed capacity on March 31, 2008. IBERDROLA RENEWABLES plans to invest €8.6 billion worldwide between 2008-2010 to install 2,000 megawatts a year to reach 13,600 megawatts installed at the end of 2010.
