What it isAn LNG receiving terminal is the point of arrival of the LNG tankers in a gas utilization region. Here the LNG is unloaded, stored in its liquid state, and re-gasified and fed to the natural gas pipeline system as needed. |
How it works
The liquid LNG is transferred from the LNG tanker to large, heavily insulated storage tanks using cryogenic transfer pumps.
The LNG boil-off gas that is formed during the transfer process and during storage in the tanks is recovered by suitable boil-off-gas compressors and reliquefied.
The LNG is pumped at pipeline pressure by high pressure multistage cryogenic pumps and re-gasified by heating it with seawater using heat exchangers called open rack vaporizers.
