LNG Receiving Terminal

What it is

An LNG receiving terminal is the point of arrival of the LNG tankers in a gas utilization region. Here the LNG is unloaded, stored in its liquid state, and re-gasified and fed to the natural gas pipeline system as needed.

How it works

The liquid LNG is transferred from the LNG tanker to large, heavily insulated storage tanks using cryogenic transfer pumps.

The LNG boil-off gas that is formed during the transfer process and during storage in the tanks is recovered by suitable boil-off-gas compressors and reliquefied.

The LNG is pumped at pipeline pressure by high pressure multistage cryogenic pumps and re-gasified by heating it with seawater using heat exchangers called open rack vaporizers.
