kV2 Multifunction Electricity Meter

Kv2 Multifunction Electricity meter

For Real Time Instrumentation

The GE kV2 meter is designed to meet metering needs in a rapidly changing world where deregulation blurs the lines between Utility, Industrial, Commercial and Substation metering. In a world where meters now need to answer new and vital questions for your business, the kV2 moves beyond revenue metering to real time instrumentation, true power quality monitoring, and real cost of service measurement. Introduced in 2000, it is built on kV metering technology. However, it uses a 32-bit processor and large flash memory to provide a new level of functionality for a revenue meter.

Features & Benefits

  • Bi-Directional Coincident Demand Meter - Each kV2 meter starts as a bi-directional coincident demand meter. Each demand has five demand values and two coincident values. By adding a K switch, you get a four-quadrant bi-directional meter. By adding TOU, you can measure your most complex rates with one meter
  • Functional Upgradability - The soft switches provide hardware-free functional upgrades. You can add the following functions when you need them:
    — 4 or 20 channel recorder
    — Power quality measures (THD, TDD, DPF)
    — Totalization (up to 5 meters)
    — Transformer loss and line compensation
    — KVA, power factor, kvar and kVA measures
    — Waveform capture for Harmonic analysis
    — Call-in during outage (modem)
    — 500 event power quality and security log
    — Time-of-use (TOU) metering
    — Instrument transformer accuracy correction
    — Quadrant measures
    — Per phase measurement
    — Sag and swell monitoring and logging for 200 events
  • Built-in Recording - Every kV2 includes a built-in soft switch enabled 4 or 20 channel recorder. The recorder is enhanced to record energy (real, reactive, phasor and apparent), voltage, current, frequency, THD and TDD. In addition to traditional interval recording, you can record minimum, maximum and end-of-interval values per interval
  • Power Quality Monitoring - Monitors and logs voltage sags and swells down to one cycle. The kV2 also adds THD, TDD and harmonic analysis to the kV power quality reporting capabilities. Moreover, by adding a soft switch, you can start a PQ Survey data for PQ compliance monitoring or gathering
  • Revenue Guard Plus - A Revenue Guard Plus option preserves billing integrity even if a phase is lost on a 4-wire wye service. A three-element meter is converted into a 21/2-element meter. The date and time of the switch is recorded if the meter is in TOU or demand/LP mode. Thus, you do not have to incur any additional cost if a fuse blows or a phase is lost
  • Communications Options - Internal telephone modem and RS-232 option boards provide 2400B telephone communications and 9600B serial data. This makes the kV2 a real-time window on system performance and power quality at the service point
  • I/O Options - You can select between an SIO board with three SSR pulse outputs and real-time pricing (RTP) input and an MIO board with eight SSR pulse outputs, four pulse inputs and RTP. The MIO board can be used to collect and record pulse data from electric, gas and water meters. The board can also be used to totalize readings from up to 5 meters
