Developments

GE’s Oilfield Technology team dedicates more than a quarter of its resources to new developments spanning all system modules: sensors, navigation, telemetry, power, surface hardware, as well as software for analysis, display, and plotting of gathered data. The balance of the team is engaged in sustaining activity to insure our existing offering incorporates feedback from our customers. Collaboration with customers is a cornerstone of our design philosophy and is the reason we locate our technology teams in 5 strategic locations: Hampshire, Aberdeen, Calgary, Twinsburg, and Houston. In addition to working on internally-funded programs, the teams also engage in collaborative development projects with a number of our service and oil company clients.

The Bramshill facility is the research and development centre for the majority of the Sondex Wireline products. R&D operations for wireline formation evaluation products continue to be based in Calgary. Technology projects focused on drilling are based out of the Aberdeen, Twinsburg, Houston, and Calgary facilities.

Project management in-house is undertaken by engineers who have had previous career experience in oilfield service companies and who therefore have an understanding of market requirements. The development division is organized into teams focusing on the disciplines of sensors, electronics, mechanics and software.

During the past year the Group has also continued to work with Statoil and other major oil companies on the further development of the Downhole Electric Cutting Tool (DECT).
