Pipe Recovery

There are many reasons why drillpipe, casing or tubing can become stuck in the well and halt operations.

Tubing may have to be replaced during the lifetime of a producing well, or may need to be cut prior to well abandonment. Packer internals may need cutting to aid retrieval of downhole packers.

Until now, pipe-cutting downhole has been accomplished through the use of high pressure chemicals or explosives, processes which can pose considerable safety, logistical and environmental hazards.

GE, in partnership with TSL Technology, has developed an innovative and patented Downhole Electric Cutting Tool (DECT) which can be deployed downhole quickly, cleanly and efficiently without the use of chemicals or explosives.
