Testing & Inspections

Testing & Evaluation Expertise

GE technicians test and maintain the world’s largest installed turbine-generator fleet utilizing state-of-the-art flaw detection equipment and procedures. We offer a wide range of testing and inspection services. When you have unique testing requirements, we can put the full scope of our testing and evaluation expertise to work for you.

Electrical / Mechanical Testing

GE offers many types of electrical and mechanical testing, including customized diagnostic testing to help diagnose unique equipment problems.

  • Acoustic testing
  • Vibration testing
  • Customized diagnostic testing

Non-Destructive Testing

Customers around the world leverage GE’s experience in nondestructive testing programs for fossil, nuclear, hydroelectric and waste-to-energy facilities. We use ultrasonic technology to examine tubing, piping, tank or vessel walls and other equipment for thickness variations, corrosion and flaws in bonding and welding. We have also developed innovative devices for detecting corrosion under insulation without total insulation removal.

Thermal Performance Testing

GE offers a full spectrum of thermal performance testing services for both steam and gas turbine-generator plants. Thermal performance testing is essential to optimize the operation to attain fuel efficiency maximum output capacity and to identify maintenance needs.

Performance testing is used to:

  • Establish baseline performance of a new or overhauled turbine-generator
  • Establish baseline performance of individual cycle components
  • Detect cycle or equipment operational inefficiencies
  • Identify operation and maintenance actions to maximize plant revenues

Inspection Programs

We offer an inspection program called PRISM®, which helps you comply with OSHA requirements for process safety management and mechanical integrity, and risk-based inspection, which helps you prioritize inspection work and develop the optimal inspection interval based on risk.
