Thermal Performance Testing

Optimize Your Operations

If thermal efficiency is important to your bottom line, the value of our accurate assessment is clear. For example, if you have a 300MW, 8K Btu/kWh power plant with a 70 percent load factor, and your fuel costs $2 USD/mBtu, you would save $290,000 USD in the first year by improving your heat rate by only one percent.

Performance test evaluations include:

  • Component condition assessment
  • Identified symptoms and causes of performance degradation
  • Specific operational, maintenance and repair recommendations to improve performance

Testing Services

Gas Turbine ASME Code Test

The ASME PTC-22 test guides thermal performance testing of gas turbine-generators. We provide special test equipment for highly accurate acceptance tests of new and upgraded gas turbine-generators. We can also perform tests to ISO standards.

Combined Cycle Overall Plant Test

The ASME PTC-46 test guides the determination of overall plant power output and efficiency. Component tests can be conducted at the same time as the overall plant test to obtain equipment performance baselines or to diagnose performance problems.

Steam Turbine Full-scale and Alternative ASME Acceptance Tests

The full scale test follows the ANSI-ASME PTC-6 standard and verifies a steam turbine-generator’s thermal performance. This is the most accurate test available, and requires special precision instruments. Simplified tests (PTC-6.1 and PTC-6S) are also available as alternatives to the full-scale test at a lower cost with some loss of accuracy. We can also perform tests to IEC or DIN standards.
